The Rights of the Accused and the Convicted
One of the significant challenges of ensuring that justice reaches all parties involved in prosecution of sexual violence in conflict is that the rights of accused and of convicted persons are upheld. In many countries, especially nation states emerging from conflict with few resources, this can be challenging. In 2013 a joint OHCHR (UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner) and MONUSCO (the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo) released a report on the high incidence of deaths in detention centers and the need for action.
